Reading Notes: Part B How the Tiger Got His Strength

Story from: Folk-Tales of the Khasis by Mrs. K.U. Rafy

How the Tiger Got His Strength

When animals were created it was chaos because no one had certain designated qualities.
The Bleis (gods) called for a Durbar (a king) to decide what qualities each animal would have in hopes to lessen the chaos for the future.
The human was given qualities of beauty and wisdom. The man in the story was not happy with just these two things, he also wanted great strength. So he went to the Durbar and requested strength and they said some tomorrow and we will give it to you,

The tiger had a quality of being able to roam silently, meaning it was rare for anyone to hear the tiger approaching. He heard the Durbar promise the man great strength and decided they he wanted the strength. The next morning the tiger sent in a messenger that reported that the man was there to get his strength. The Durbar gave it to him but it was going straight to the tiger. So now the tiger was 12x stronger than it was before.

When the man went to acquire about his strength that was designated for him, he learned that it was no longer there and the Durbar was not going to take it back from the tiger.  In the end, the Durbar gave the man a bow and arrow and said they he shouldn't have to remain defenseless and then gave him the gift of skill.

I was a little disappointed because I wish the man would've been able to use his wisdom amd smarts to come up with the idea of the bow and arrow himself. That would've been good use of his new quality and showed how humans can be innovative and adapt.
